Snow Day Crew is a group project, meant for a set of matching sweatshirts for parents and kids, a sledding party or a class. The phrase names no holiday, so the set gets worn all winter. Our picture shows white vinyl on a navy crewneck. One sweatshirt is a simple press. A batch means cutting several sizes without wasting vinyl and getting each one to bond to thick fleece.

How to make it
- Write down who is getting a sweatshirt and measure each one across the chest. Plan the design at roughly 9 to 11 inches wide for adults, 7 to 9 for youth and 5 to 6 for toddlers.
- Add the SVG to your canvas once, then duplicate it for each person and resize every copy. Label them on screen if your software allows, so sizes do not get mixed up.
- Mirror every copy. In some software the mirror switch is set per mat, so check each mat before cutting.
- Load HTV carrier side down and cut with the iron-on setting for your vinyl. Write the size on each carrier sheet with a marker as it comes off the mat.
- Weed all the designs in one sitting. Clear the background, the centers of the O, D and A, and the small notches between the arms of the three snowflakes. Then the ribbon at the bottom: CREW is knocked out of it, so the ribbon stays on the carrier and the four letters are pulled out. Keep the one tiny center of the R.
- Slip a pressing pillow or folded towel inside the first sweatshirt. The chest should sit higher than the collar seam, the shoulder seams and any hoodie pocket.
- Pre-press to flatten the fleece and drive out moisture. Thick fabric holds more of it than a tee does.
- Place the design about 3 inches below the collar on adult sizes. Cover with parchment, press with firm pressure according to the heat guide, and peel the carrier as directed. Repeat for the rest of the crew.
Tips
- On a hoodie, check that the design clears both the drawstring eyelets and the top of the front pocket. Flip the hood back and tuck the strings out of the way.
- Many sweatshirts are a cotton and polyester mix. Confirm your vinyl’s guide lists blends, and stick to its settings for that fabric.
- Arrange copies on the mat so they nest closely. Small kid sizes often fit in the space left beside an adult one.
- Use the same placement for everyone. Measure down from the collar on each garment so the set lines up in photos.
FAQ
Can we change “Crew” to a family name?
The phrase in the file is fixed, but you can add a line of your own. Type a name or a year under the design in your cutting software, pick a simple bold font, and mirror it along with everything else.
Does HTV stick to fleece sweatshirts?
It sticks well to the smooth outer face of most cotton and cotton-blend fleece. It does not bond to fuzzy, sherpa or heavily textured surfaces. If the outside of the garment feels plush, choose a different one.
How should the sweatshirts be washed?
Inside out, on a cool cycle, after the vinyl has had a day to set. Dry them on low. Heavy sweatshirts rub against each other in the dryer, so turning them inside out protects the lettering from scuffs.
